5 Must Follow Twitter Accounts for Inclusion Advocates

Inclusion & diversity is a topic which usually gets mentioned, talked about and included in campaigns a lot these days. Companies use the terms like we are “inclusive” – come work for our company. You will see brands shouting from rooftops that- we have a very “diverse” range of workforce, come join the team!

But how many of us believe these claims of diversity & inclusion, or how many of us can see through this false inclusion focussed marketing campaigns? I am sure many of us wonder at the authenticity of these campaigns and brands.

Did you know according to a recent McKinsey Study, 51% of employees leaving the workplace are doing so because they don’t feel a sense of belonging?

Companies which are making an impact and bringing about real changes put in a lot of work which can include investing in research, focus groups, identifying and talking to various stakeholders; before promoting and advertising about inclusion and diversity.

While you or your company might be on an inclusion journey, and that journey might just have started, or you might be half-way there, I am sure as Inclusion advocates you need support at every step of this journey. As we all know and can agree that Equity, Equality Inclusion & Diversity initiatives are projects which requires team effort and specialist support along with buy-in from colleagues, communities, suppliers and senior stakeholders.

As inclusion advocates you will need allies, advocates, experts, researchers, tools, data and people to get ideas and implement changes within your organisations.

Some organisations might have big budgets for their DE&I (Diversity, Equality/Equity & Inclusion) initiatives; however, most organisations will have low or non-existent budgets to start or progress on their DE&I policy.

This is where you need support provided by experts who do this day-in and day-out, who understand the DE&I challenges within organisations, who provide excellent solutions to solve these changes within workplaces and sometimes offer these services for free because they want to see real “Change”.

I have listed 5 such brands below who are not only DE&I champions, but they do an incredible job of educating their audience, sharing detailed expert knowledge, analysis by making use of data and providing solutions to solve workplace inequality, bring in diversity and belongingness at workplaces across the globe.

1. @PayGapApp

This is a gender pay gap bot created by Francesca Lawson, a freelance copywriter and social media manger and she is the creative strategist for this bot. Ali Fensome manages the data and technical aspect of this bot.

When companies who are listed on the government’s gender pay gap service report, tweeted on International Women’s Day in 2022, this bot automatically responds with their median gender pay gap when it finds relevant keywords in the social media post.

The data the bot uses is publicly available data, which is helping this bot drive real change and bring awareness using data. This bot was launched on International Women’s Day in 2022

Did you know women’s median hourly pay is less than men’s at 77% of UK companies!

The main aim of creating this bot was to bring about change in organisations and society. It is helping the communities and audiences to see if the organisation which posts content on equality, diversity and inclusion are doing any real work to back up all the social media claims.

How can this tool help you as an organisation or individual?

- If you are an organisation and are going to post on International Women’s Day or any other topic related to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, be aware because this bot can catch if your claims are true or not. And it will re-tweet your tweet with your company’s gender pay gap and enable wider audiences to see it too.

- If you are a DEI advocate, you can use this bot and make use of the data to help reduce the gender pay gap within the organisations.

- If you are an individual looking to work at a new company and want to understand how inclusive an organisation is in the UK, make use of this tool to guide you and make the right decision.
